Start with what you want
Some people want dates, some want friends, and many want both depending on the week. Before you download anything, decide what you are looking for right now. The best app is the one that fits that, not the one with the most profiles.
A quick checklist
- Inclusive by design. Does it welcome every identity, including trans, non-binary and bi people, with community guidelines that say so?
- Friendship as a real feature. Can you use it without dating, or is friendship an afterthought?
- Real-life places. Does it help you find queer-friendly bars, cafés and events, not just profiles?
- Privacy controls. Are orientation, gender identity and pronouns optional? Can you hide your distance or stay discreet?
- Safety tools. Block and report in every chat and clear rules, free for everyone.
- Honest pricing. What is free, what is paid, and is the price shown before you buy?
- Data respect. Is sensitive information kept out of advertising and never sold?
Text-first, photo-first or real-life first
Some queer apps focus on written posts, some on photos, and some on helping you meet in person. None is right for everyone. If you find yourself scrolling more than talking, try an app that pushes you toward a plan: a place, a group, a time.
How Waimz approaches it
Waimz™ is the LGBTQ+ app for places, friends and dating. You see someone nearby and start the chat yourself, replies are always free, and dating is optional. Places shows queer-friendly spots near you, and Communities help you meet people around what you love.

Use any app as a bridge
The goal is not more time on your phone. It is more time with people. Use apps to find the next plan, then go. Our guide to making LGBTQ+ friends as an adult has more ideas.
